Master in Power engineering

Wrocław, Poland Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

This master's track in Power Engineering at Wrocław University of Science and Technology specialises in Refrigeration and Cryogenics, within the field of Mechanical Engineering of Power Machines. Taught in English over three semesters, with annual tuition of 4000 EUR, the programme is based in Wrocław, Poland. Graduates gain detailed knowledge of devices and installations used for cooling down to minus 150 degrees Celsius and, in the case of cryogenics, for temperatures below 120 Kelvin down to fractions of a Kelvin. The curriculum builds skills in designing, implementing, and operating both refrigerating and cryocooling systems, and prepares graduates to apply modern design methods creatively as well as to undertake PhD studies. The first semester covers Applied Mathematics, Analytical Mechanics, Mechatronics and Control Systems, Modern Engineering Materials, Vapor-Compression Refrigeration Systems, Thermodynamic Fundamentals of Refrigeration and Cryogenics and Low Temperature Physics, Refrigerants, Coolants and Cold Chain, Cryogenics, and a foreign language at B2+ level. The second semester includes Finite Element Analysis, Gas and Cryogenic Technologies, Air Conditioning Systems, Cryogenic Systems and Applied Superconductivity, numerical techniques related to heat transfer, Cooling Systems, Sorption Refrigeration, Cryogenic Materials and Fluids, a management elective, and a further foreign language at any level. The third semester covers Integrated Production Systems, Failure Analysis of Machines and Devices, a humanities elective, a master's seminar, and the master's thesis. Graduates are prepared to work across industrial branches that rely on cooling and low-temperature technology, including food processing, pharmaceuticals, energy, and industrial gas production, applying engineering knowledge that sits at the intersection of thermodynamics, mechanical design, and materials science.
