Cracow University of Technology

Master in Power engineering

Kraków, Poland Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The master's programme in Power Engineering at Cracow University of Technology runs three semesters and is taught in English, based in Kraków, Poland. The first semester covers foundational subjects such as Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Power Plant Technology, and Numerical Methods. The second semester shifts to Directional Subjects, including Computational Structural Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics, along with specialisation subjects tied to the module a student selects. Classes are taught by researchers from Poland alongside internationally recognised foreign lecturers. The study programme is designed around current market needs and modern scientific trends in the field, including the design of energy systems, experimental investigation of energy systems, mathematical modelling of energy systems, and the application of computational techniques such as Computational Fluid Dynamics and the Finite Element Method to energy systems analysis and design. Students choose between two modules: Energy Systems, focused on conventional power plants and systems, and Renewable Energy, focused on heating systems and renewable energy technologies. The strongest students have the option to complete their master's thesis in collaboration with foreign universities and to move on to PhD study in Power Engineering. The programme is coordinated by Professor Paweł Ocłoń, whose contact details are available for prospective students. Power engineering as a discipline covers the generation, transmission, and management of energy, spanning conventional thermal and electrical systems as well as renewable technologies such as wind, solar, and geothermal power. Graduates typically work as engineers in power plants, utility companies, engineering consultancies, or renewable energy developers, or continue toward doctoral research. The three-semester structure compresses graduate-level training into an accelerated timeline for students who already hold undergraduate preparation in mechanical or power engineering.
