Wrocław University of Science and Technology

Master in Environmental engineering

Wrocław, Poland Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

This master's programme, part of the field of study Mining and Geology with a specialization in Geotechnical and Environmental Engineering, is run jointly by Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (WUST) in Wroclaw, Poland, and the University of Miskolc in Hungary. Taught in English over three semesters, it costs 4,000 EUR per year. The programme is structured as a formal student mobility arrangement: WUST students spend the first and third semesters in Wroclaw, while the second semester takes place at the University of Miskolc, with students applying for an Erasmus Plus grant to cover the mobility period. In the third semester, students return to WUST to write and defend their master's thesis. Graduates become specialists in two connected fields, geotechnical and environmental engineering, a combination the programme describes as an unusual profile in the sector. Alongside this dual specialization, graduates gain the ability to apply in-depth knowledge of basic sciences, manage and supervise teams, handle high-risk situations and decisions, design technological processes, carry out research work, and work creatively. The first semester in Wroclaw covers theory and practice in geomechanics, computer-aided geological modelling and geostatistics, project management, appraisal and risk evaluation, engineering geophysics, integrated analysis of deformations in geomechanical engineering, occupational health and safety, and environmental chemistry. The second semester in Miskolc addresses methods of environmental assessment, waste incineration and air quality protection, water and wastewater treatment, environmental geotechnics, chemical technologies in environmental protection, and environmental risk assessment. Graduates of this joint programme are positioned for careers spanning mining, geotechnical engineering and environmental protection, in consultancies, mining companies, and infrastructure or environmental agencies across Europe.
