The Sustainable Energy Systems Master's programme prepares students to work on the transformation of energy systems toward a climate-neutral, secure, and economically viable future. The core technical focus is the transition of electrical power systems to renewable energy, supplemented by competencies in sustainability, digitalisation, smart grids, and energy market design. Course content spans the design, modelling, control, and operation of electrical energy systems, distributed renewable generation, and sector coupling across energy sectors. Students develop skills through seminars, tutorials, lab work, and project groups. The programme also includes an industry internship in which students apply their knowledge to practical problems, and the final semester is devoted entirely to the Master's thesis over six months. All courses are taught in English across 4 semesters, with intake in both the winter and summer semester. The first semester provides a common foundation covering mandatory courses across different backgrounds, followed by elective courses and increasing engagement with research groups and thesis topics.
