About Master in Quantum Science and Technology

The Quantum Science and Technology (QST) Master's programme is a joint degree offered by Technical University of Munich and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, created to address the interdisciplinary nature of the field. It covers quantum computing, quantum sensing, quantum simulation, quantum materials, and quantum cryptography, drawing also on mathematics, information technology, electrical engineering, and chemistry. The programme places particular emphasis on the concepts of superposition and entanglement as applied in modern quantum technologies. The two-year, four-semester programme is structured so that the first year focuses on foundational lectures and laboratory courses, while the second year is oriented around the Master's thesis within a research group. Two mandatory modules must be completed in the first semester. Students can enrol in courses at both universities and design individualised curricula from a catalogue of elective subjects that reflect the broad research activities of both institutions. The programme also includes a scientifically oriented lab course and a general education component. The programme starts only in the winter semester and is offered at the Technical University of Munich campus in Garching b. München, Germany.
