The Master's programme in Engineering of Socio-Technical Systems (EngSTS) takes an interdisciplinary approach to the development of safety-critical, computer-based interactive systems, combining content from computing science and psychology — particularly cognitive and perception psychology — with engineering methods for information systems development. The programme runs over four semesters, beginning in the winter semester. Students follow one of three focus areas. The Human Computer Interaction track covers usability, interaction design, and evaluation of complex technical systems. The Embedded Brain-Computer Interaction track addresses system design with both human and technical components, neurocognitive psychology, and signal processing in cyber-physical systems. The Systems Engineering track focuses on analysing and developing large cooperative networks of safety-critical, socio-technical systems. Each track includes team-oriented internships and a domain accentuation component. Graduates often move into roles as usability or safety engineers, human factors professionals, interaction developers, or developers of user interfaces and cooperation strategies. Employment areas span mobile applications, automotive and aerospace systems, web services, partially autonomous systems, and medical device development.
