Bielefeld University's Medien master's programme is coordinated with the University of Bologna, supported by the DAAD and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

The curriculum focuses on the historical, political, and cultural aspects of media, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research and collaboration. The summer school on 'Political Participation' in 2015 showcased the programme's commitment to fostering international academic exchange, with German and Italian early-career researchers discussing their projects.
