Master in International Media Studies (MA)

International Media Studies is a full-time, four-semester Master's programme designed for graduates from developing and transitional countries with prior media experience. The programme is a joint project of the University of Bonn, Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, and Deutsche Welle Akademie, and is conducted in Bonn. It covers media and development, journalism, communication science, media economics, and digitalisation through a structured combination of research, lectures, and practical training. Up to 30 students are admitted per year. The programme begins in September with two mandatory introduction weeks. The first and second semesters introduce the relationship between media, politics, and society, with modules covering media development, journalism, media economics, media management, and intercultural communication. The third semester addresses empirical methods, media planning, market research, project management, and leadership training. In the fourth semester, students return to their home countries to write their Master's theses, concluding with a colloquium. Students from developing countries and countries in transition may apply for a scholarship; the scholarship is 992 EUR per month and also covers tuition fees of 6,000 EUR. Scholarship recipients complete their thesis in their home country. The programme is delivered at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg in Bonn, Germany.
