The MSc in Physics at Ulm University provides a research-oriented education in physics and scientific methods. Students build on their prior background in general physics and carry out a first independent research project in one of the programme's specialisation areas: biophysics and soft matter, condensed matter physics and nanoscience, econophysics, plasma physics, or quantum information and technologies. The programme is structured across four semesters. The first year combines obligatory core lectures for deepening general physics knowledge with elective courses leading to a chosen specialisation. The second year is devoted to research, with students conducting an independent scientific project in their chosen area. The final semester is reserved for the Master's thesis, which is research-oriented and has a duration of six months. The programme is open to entry in either the winter or summer semester.
