Master of Science in Computational Sciences

The Master of Science in Computational Sciences at Freie Universität Berlin teaches students to apply mathematical and computer-based methods and to develop software for solving scientific problems. The instructors come from chemistry, physics, geosciences, mathematics, and computer science, and the programme brings these disciplines together in a shared computational framework. The four-semester programme is structured into four components. The synchronisation area establishes interdisciplinary foundations from subjects students may not have covered in their Bachelor's programmes. The scientific computing area allows students to set a priority in numerics, statistics, or computer science. The specialisation area focuses on one of three scientific fields: molecular sciences, geosciences, or atmospheric sciences. Each specialisation includes compulsory elective courses, non-compulsory electives, and a scientific project that can be conducted in cooperation with another institution and prepares students for the thesis. The fourth component is the Master's thesis, written in the final semester in the chosen specialisation field. The programme is offered at Freie Universität Berlin in Berlin, Germany.
