Master in Engineering of Hydro-Environmental Extremes (HDE)

The Master's programme in Engineering of Hydro-Environmental Extremes prepares graduates to work as scientific and engineering consultants in areas relating to extreme hydro-meteorological events and their environmental impacts. The programme takes an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on civil engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, environmental sciences, and geosciences to equip students with physical and computational process understanding, risk analysis, and decision-making skills relevant to climate change-related challenges. Students choose from a range of modules across these disciplines, and are encouraged to develop solutions using non-conventional methods, advanced scientific computing, and innovative verification approaches. The curriculum includes a preparatory adaptation block, a compulsory module area, a compulsory elective area, and a master's thesis. The programme spans four semesters and normally begins in the winter semester. Graduates are qualified for roles as consulting engineers in water and environment, positions in planning, implementation or public administration, and for entry into doctoral programmes in related sub-disciplines.
