GPA to Percentage Calculator

A 3.0 GPA equals 75% and a 7.5 CGPA by the standard proportional formula; a 4.0 GPA equals 100%. Convert any US 4.0 GPA to a percentage and 10-point CGPA — with reverse mode (% → GPA) and the full letter-grade table below.

Quick answers

What is a 3.5 GPA in percentage?

A 3.5 GPA on the US 4.0 scale is 87.5% — multiply the GPA by 25. The same result is 8.75/10 on the Indian CGPA scale and an A− letter grade. Universities that ask for a percentage instead of a GPA read 87.5% as a first-class result, well clear of the 3.0 (75%) minimum most US master's programmes publish for graduate admission.

What is a 3.0 GPA in percentage?

A 3.0 GPA converts to 75.0%, a 7.50/10 CGPA and a B average. 3.0 is the published floor for graduate admission at most US universities, so a percentage transcript has to show 75% or better to clear it. Below that, admission usually depends on a strong GRE, research output, or a bridging/conditional route.

What is a 3.7 GPA in percentage?

A 3.7 GPA is 92.5% on the standard formula and 9.25/10 on the Indian CGPA scale — an A− average. That is around the median admitted GPA at top-25 US master's programmes, and comfortably above the 60% that UK universities treat as the 2:1 threshold for taught master's entry. Report whichever number your transcript prints; adcoms recompute from the transcript anyway.

How do you convert a percentage to a GPA?

Divide the percentage by 25. A transcript showing 85% is a 3.40 GPA on the US 4.0 scale, 8.50/10 as an Indian CGPA, and a B+ letter grade. The calculator above does the same in reverse mode for any percentage. Credential evaluators such as WES recompute course by course, so their official GPA can sit a tenth or two either side of this straight-line conversion.

5.0 scale GPA to percentage conversion table

Universities on a 5-point scale (parts of Nigeria, Egypt, Indonesia and some Indian institutions) convert proportionally: percentage = GPA ÷ 5 × 100, and the US equivalent is GPA ÷ 5 × 4.

10-point CGPA to percentage conversion table

The UGC 10-point scale most Indian universities use. Percentage = CGPA × 10, and the US equivalent is CGPA ÷ 10 × 4. Some universities print their own multiplier (9.5 at CBSE-linked institutions); if your transcript states a percentage, that number is authoritative.

How GPA to percentage conversion works

Four formulas in common use, one per scale:

4.0 scale: Percentage = GPA × 25
5.0 scale: Percentage = GPA ÷ 5 × 100
10-point: Percentage = CGPA × 10
CGPA-10: CGPA = GPA × 2.5

All four are the same proportional rule — score divided by the scale maximum, times 100. WES evaluates a transcript course by course, so no formula reproduces its result.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do you convert GPA to a percentage?
Multiply your GPA by 25 — the standard US-side rule. So a 3.4 GPA = 3.4 × 25 = 85%.
Is there a formula that matches what WES will report?
No. WES evaluates a transcript course by course and takes the credit-weighted average, so no formula reproduces its result. Use the proportional conversion above for shortlisting, and the WES report itself wherever a university requires one.
How do I convert my GPA to an Indian 10-point CGPA?
Multiply your GPA by 2.5. So a 3.4 GPA = 3.4 × 2.5 = 8.5/10 CGPA. This is the inverse of the standard CGPA-to-GPA proportional formula.
Which formula will my target university actually use?
Most US schools accept either the proportional formula or the official WES report. UK and EU programs often use a different scale entirely (First-Class, 2:1, etc.). When in doubt, check the program's admissions FAQ.
What's a good GPA for an MS in the US?
Top-50 US programs are competitive at 3.5+ (≈87.5%); top-25 at 3.7+ (≈92.5%). Programs publish a class-average GPA for their admitted cohort — that's the truest benchmark.
