Master in Air Quality Control, Solid Waste and Waste Water Process Engineering (MSc WASTE)

Stuttgart, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The Master of Science in Air Quality Control, Solid Waste and Waste Water Process Engineering (MSc WASTE) at the University of Stuttgart is a four-semester international programme taught entirely in English. It covers environmental and process engineering with a focus on three applied specialisation areas: Air Quality Control, Solid Waste, and Waste Water Process Engineering. The programme starts each October in the winter semester. In the first semester, students complete five of six compulsory advanced modules covering the fundamentals of environmental and process engineering, including thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, pollutant formation, chemistry and biology for engineers, and sanitary engineering. From the second semester onwards, students choose two of the three specialised areas, each of which includes a core module, two elective modules, and practical work or an industrial internship. The individual study plan allows students to broaden across areas or specialise more narrowly. Excursions and practical work in university research facilities supplement the modules throughout, and an adviser guides each student's programme. The fourth semester is dedicated to the Master's thesis, which can be completed at the University of Stuttgart, at a company, or at another university or research facility. Students without prior German language proficiency take integrated German courses; those who are exempt take equivalent interdisciplinary modules instead. An optional double degree pathway is available with the Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR) in Brazil for students who carry out the second year of studies there. Graduates are prepared for roles across environmental and process engineering in industry, research, and regulatory settings. The programme is based at the University of Stuttgart in Stuttgart.
