About Master in EMerald Master’s Programme in Georesources Engineering

EMerald is a two-year joint Master's programme in Georesources Engineering delivered by four European universities: University of Liège (ULiège), University of Lorraine (UL), Lulea University of Technology (LTU), and TU Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF). The programme covers the major aspects of resources engineering — characterisation, processing, modelling, and management — with an emphasis on balancing knowledge of metal and mineral resources with process engineering techniques. Course content also addresses critical raw material supply factors including diversification, substitution, and end-uses based on industrial applications. The curriculum is organised across four semesters of 30 ECTS each. The first semester takes place at ULiège, providing foundational skills such as mineral processing basics. The second semester at UL advances students to more complex topics including flotation. The third semester takes place either at LTU (primary raw materials) or TUBAF (secondary raw materials), allowing students to specialise. The fourth semester is an internship and Master's thesis conducted at one of the four partner universities, in close collaboration with an industrial partner or research centre. Industrial seminars are integrated throughout the programme to address strategic economic, environmental, and social challenges. The programme includes TUBAF as one of its host institutions, located in Freiberg, Germany.
