This program is grounded in research and theory-to-practice methodology. Students learn to assess child development, promote health and nutrition, and manage child-care settings. They gain skills to support children from newborns to eight years old with special needs. The curriculum includes practicum experience and online coursework.

Two semesters, 16.50 credits, full-time or part-time, no co-op or practicum stated beyond the Special Needs Preceptorship.

Graduates qualify to apply for a provincial license to practise as a special needs educator in licensed preschool and child-care centres.

Completion of a Certificate-Level Early Childhood Education program at Douglas College or equivalent. Overall average of 'C+' in ECE courses. Submission of work history form and two references. Criminal Record Check and medical declaration required. Must be 18 by December 31 of the entry year. English proficiency required; applicants who do not meet it can take English Upgrading courses.
