About the Program

The MSc in Computer Science at the University of Regensburg allows students to deepen knowledge in core computer science and specialise in applied areas of their choosing. The programme is structured around a compulsory area (at least 60 ECTS including the Master's thesis), a Core Computer Science elective area (at least 18 ECTS from 20 available modules), and a Specialisation elective area (at least 42 ECTS). The compulsory area includes two modules each in Advanced Algorithms and Advanced Software Engineering (6 ECTS each, with associated labs), a free elective in computer and data science (12 ECTS), a seminar on current topics in computer science (6 ECTS), and the Master's thesis (30 ECTS). The 4-semester programme admits students in both the winter and summer semesters. The Core Computer Science elective draws from modules in theoretical, practical, computer engineering, and applied computer science. The choice of a specialisation is mandatory, with four options available: Core Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Human-Centred Computing, and Information Systems. Students who complete the Master's thesis as part of their specialisation have the specialisation noted on their certificate.
