The MSc in Cognitive Systems at Ulm University covers the foundations, principles, and mechanisms of perception, learning, memory, reasoning, and interaction, and trains students to model and implement these abilities in both humans and machines. Engineering, Computer Science, and Psychology are part of the same faculty at Ulm, enabling an integrated approach that combines theoretical, empirical, and computational perspectives on cognition. The 4-semester programme, starting in the winter semester, is divided into four subject categories: Basic, Interdisciplinary, Special, and Applied, and is completed by a Master's thesis. Mandatory coursework in Basic and Interdisciplinary subjects introduces students with a psychology background to computer science fundamentals, and students from computer science or technical fields to general psychology and experiment design. Elective coursework in Special and Applied subjects allows deeper specialisation, and Applied modules are all organised as projects with practical work tied to supervising scientific institutions.
