The two-year Master's programme in Cognitive Science at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) combines systematic and empirical approaches from philosophy, psychology, neural computation, psychiatry, and the neurosciences. Research questions in the programme address mechanisms of learning, forgetting, and remembering; principles of action guidance; the role of emotions in cognitive processing; neural processes underlying object recognition; the nature of concepts and rationality; and the evolution of cognitive capacities. Key research topics include social cognition, learning and memory, perception and action, and language, logic, and categories. Key methods include philosophical theory formation, behavioural and neuroimaging studies, statistical analysis, experimental psychology, basic and advanced logic, and computational modelling. The programme spans 4 semesters, starting in the winter semester, and is structured across six module types: Introduction, Soft Skills, Basic Methods, Core modules (Mind and Language; Brain and Behaviour; Computation and AI), Focus modules, a Research module, and a Master's thesis in the fourth semester. The programme is formally hosted by the Faculty of Psychology and is offered at Ruhr University Bochum in Bochum, Germany.
