About the Program

The BEng in Mechatronics at THWS addresses the multidisciplinary demands of modern industry by combining competences from electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and information processing. Teaching staff are drawn from industrial backgrounds and are involved in research and development work with national and multinational enterprises. The programme runs over 7 semesters, starting in the winter semester. The first three semesters cover foundation modules including Mathematics, Physics, Programming, Computing, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Mechanics, Microcomputer Systems, System Theory, System Modelling, and associated labs. Semesters four and five deliver core modules in Measuring Techniques, Actuators, Control Systems, Logical Control, Software Engineering, Embedded Systems, and Modelling and Simulation of Mechatronic Systems, alongside specialisation modules in areas such as automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital hardware design, cryptography, power engineering, manufacturing, biomedical engineering, and the automotive sector. Semester six is an internship and engineering seminar. Semester seven covers an industrial project, interdisciplinary labs, ethics, costing, and the thesis. Graduates are awarded the Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree. The programme is offered at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) in Schweinfurt, Germany.
