About the Program

The program is taught in English and lasts 6 years leading to a Medical Degree that readily allows practicing Medicine. All Basic, Pre-clinical and Clinical courses are taught and evaluated in English. The goal of the Medical School is to provide a high level of medical studies based on the learning and understanding of the medical science and on practical and clinical education. The main objectives of the medical studies are: The provision of the appropriate knowledge foundation for the understanding of the physiological functions of human diseases. The development of skills and competencies for the practice of Medicine. The understanding of the scientific and ethical basis of any medical procedure. The perception of the medical practice as an obligation to the patient and to society.

The Medical School of the University of Crete is a dynamic and modern center for teaching and research, dedicated to excellence in the education and training of students, physicians, and biomedical scientists. Since its founding, the School has launched a wide range of impactful initiatives in education, research, and healthcare, while fostering strong collaborations with academic, scientific, and social institutions both in Greece and internationally.

 The Medical School of the University of Crete was established in 1983 and admitted its first students in 1984. One of the biggest medical and research complexes in Greece located about 7 km from Heraklion, the campus includes a spacious and functional 24,000 square meter, ten-wing building and a modern, well-equipped University Hospital.

Its global standing is reflected in the active participation of faculty members in executive boards, administrative committees, and advisory councils of leading European and international scientific and professional organizations. Many faculty members also serve on the editorial boards of prestigious scientific journals and play key roles in research funding bodies. Several Divisions of the School, along with individual faculty members, have developed long-standing partnerships with institutions such as the World Health Organization and the European Commission.
