Bowie State University is Maryland's oldest historically Black college or university. Its academic offerings span more than 30 undergraduate majors, more than 21 master's degree programs, more than 18 specialty certificates and three doctoral programs. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Official transcripts and a statement of purpose are required. No standardized test is needed.

The programme totals about 36 credit hours. On-campus, full-time or part-time, typically completed in two years. For international students, tuition is well below the median for US programmes. The institution admits about 84% of applicants.
