About the Program

The Institute of Political Science at the University of Warsaw offers a master's programme in Security Studies, taught in English in Warszawa, Poland, over two years, with a yearly tuition of EUR 3200. Known as the Graduate Programme in Security Studies (GPSS), it grew out of the university's Internal Security field of study, one of the first academic centres in Poland to establish this area, which since 2012 has carried a practical profile geared toward the needs of officers in state services such as the police and border guard. The programme addresses both the knowledge and the practical preparation required for national security and public order maintenance. It is a second-cycle, full-time programme open to holders of a Bachelor's degree completed in Poland or elsewhere. Coursework combines theoretical subjects, such as the Theory of security, with practical ones, including Emergency management. Students can also take part in the university's wider academic life through conferences, debates, and lectures given by visiting guests from around the world. Graduates gain grounding in the political, legal, and social dimensions of security, positioning them for careers in government administration, international organisations, security consultancy, and services connected to public order and crisis response. The Institute of Political Science situates the GPSS within Warszawa's academic environment, drawing on the University of Warsaw's standing as one of Poland's long-established institutions for political science education. Further information about the programme, including its structure and application process, is available at www.gpss.inp.uw.edu.pl.
