The Doctoral Programme in Science at the University of Oulu offers doctoral education across four main subjects: Biology, Physics and Astronomy, Geography, and Mathematical Sciences. Research areas within the programme include population and community ecology, biodiversity genomics, global and regional environmental change, solar and near-space systems, space weather, galaxies and high-energy astrophysics, quantum materials and computation, molecular-level material physics, Bayesian data analysis, and computational and AI-based modelling. Emerging themes in the programme include Arctic environmental conditions, digital futures, sustainability, environmental genomics, ecological modelling of aquatic biodiversity, and computational biology. The programme develops skills for independent research, expert positions, and international collaboration, and supports career paths in universities, research institutes, and industry both in Finland and internationally.
