About the Program

Warsaw University of Technology offers a Photonics master's program within its Physics field of study, running four semesters and taught in English, with an intake starting on February 23, 2026. Photonics is described in the program materials as one of the European Union's Key Enabling Technologies of the twenty-first century, with applications across nearly every part of daily life. The field carries weight across many industrial sectors, including research, data and telecommunications, business, education, security and defense, imaging, sensing, medicine, process control, biotechnology, and energy, and the program notes that scientists and well-trained engineers in photonics are currently in high demand. Graduates build knowledge across mathematics, physics, electronics, and information technology, positioning them for work at a range of institutions. Throughout the program, students encounter a variety of research and project opportunities, opening paths toward basic research, project management, design, applied engineering, and manufacturing careers. The Faculty of Physics works with numerous national and international partners, giving students access to a broad and complementary range of photonics expertise, design software, and fabrication and characterization facilities. Students also get the chance to take part in ongoing research projects at the Faculty, and most master's thesis projects are carried out in the Faculty's research laboratories. Yearly tuition is EUR 16,000. Warszawa, the program's home city, is Poland's capital and a major center for technical education. The four-semester format suits students with an undergraduate background in physics or engineering who want specialized, laboratory-based training in an applied and fast-moving research area.
