University of Silesia in Katowice

Master in Physics

Katowice, Poland Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The University of Silesia in Katowice offers a Physics master's program at the second-degree level, running two years across four semesters and delivered in English, with two specializations: Fundamental and Applied Physics, and Nanophysics and Mesoscopic Materials, Modeling and Application, the latter run as a Polish-French joint track. Education in both specializations is aligned with the university's 2020-2025 Development Strategy and with Poland's broader national development strategy through 2030, and it is described as supporting the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Because each specialization has its own curriculum, the relationship between the field of study and the Development Strategy, including the university's mission, is described separately for each track. The program is closely linked to the scientific activities of the A. Chełkowski Institute of Physics, and students take part in the Institute's regular seminars, colloquia, and workshops, which draw physicists from around the world. Each student is also involved in a research-level project as part of their dissertation work. Teaching and research for the program take place at the Chorzów campus of the University of Silesia, with additional activity carried out through cooperation between the Institute of Physics and other institutions worldwide. The program is designed to expose students to current physics research while building transferable skills in data analysis, research methodology, and communication. Yearly tuition is PLN 6,900. Katowice, in southern Poland, is the center of the Upper Silesian metropolitan region and home to a substantial university system, including this physics program's host institution.
