About the Program

The MSc Neuroscience at the University of Freiburg is a four-semester, English-taught programme drawing on expertise from the departments of Biology, Engineering, and Behavioural and Economic Sciences. The programme combines experimental and theoretical training in neuroscience foundations and current research, with a modular structure that accommodates students from different academic backgrounds. The first semester provides a comprehensive grounding in the foundations of neuroscience through lectures, seminars, and practical courses covering neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and quantitative methods. From the second semester onward, students select an individual research path from specialisations including computational neuroscience, neural circuits and behaviour, and neurotechnology. In the third semester, students undertake two research internships in laboratories aligned with their chosen specialisation. The fourth semester is dedicated to the Master's thesis project and final oral exam. The programme starts in October.
