Hamburg University of Applied Sciences

Master in Microelectronic Systems

Hamburg, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Microelectronic technology underpins a broad range of modern products, from automotive systems to telecommunications and production technology. This three-semester programme, run jointly by Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg) and FH Westküste in Heide, covers the design, production, testing, and application of microelectronic circuits, components, and related embedded software. The curriculum is organised into two semesters of theory and practical work followed by a thesis semester. Winter semester modules include System on Chip, Embedded Signal Processing, Smart Sensor Systems, a sustainable research project, and a general elective. Summer semester modules cover Microtechnology, Chip Design, Machine Learning on Embedded Devices, High-Speed Digital Design, a second research project, and a second elective. Each semester carries 30 credit points. Classes are small-group lectures combined with lab work, and students complete two individual projects presented at a small conference at the end of each semester. The Master's thesis is written in the third semester, most often with an industry partner. Graduates receive a joint degree certificate from both universities. Applicants whose Bachelor's degree is equivalent to 180 credit points must complete a further 30 credit points within the first two semesters, which generally extends the programme by one semester. The programme is delivered in English and offered at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, Germany.
