About Master in MA Animation and Game

The MA in Animation and Game at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences is a research- and development-oriented programme that qualifies students for leadership roles in the international media industry. Students gain advanced skills in digital animation and game development, conduct research in these areas, and acquire directorial experience by supervising projects in the Animation and Game Bachelor's programme under lecturer guidance. The programme offers two specialisations. The Creative Direction specialisation covers animation and game direction, creative research and development, narrative design, game experience design, animation and game studies, creative strategies, and creative entrepreneurship, with the aim of preparing students for roles such as animation director, lead game designer, art director, or creative producer. The Technical Direction specialisation develops skills in advanced game programming, technical art, VR/AR technologies, and technical pipeline management, targeting roles such as technical director, lead programmer, or technical producer. Both specialisations follow a project-based learning approach. The programme is available in formats of two, three, or four semesters depending on the applicant's prior qualification, and opens in both winter and summer semesters. It is based at the Mediencampus of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences in Dieburg.
