Bachelor in Language and literature studies (English)

Language and Literature Studies (English) is a bachelor's degree, known as English Philology, taught in English over three years (six semesters) at the University of Dąbrowa Górnicza in Dąbrowa Górnicza, Poland. The programme aims to prepare professionals with advanced knowledge and skills to work effectively in multicultural environments using English across different contexts. Graduates gain knowledge in linguistics, literary theory, British and American literature, the history of the English language, grammar, foreign language teaching methodology, psychology, and pedagogy. Practical skills developed include accurate use of English in various social contexts, free expression and advocacy of opinions, use of specialist professional language, academic English, proper text editing, and ongoing development in language learning and teaching. Students choose among three specialties: English Philology with a Translation specialty, English Philology with a Business English specialty, or English Philology with a second language, which can be German, Spanish, or Russian. Students can also take classes in specialized terminology covering fields such as medicine, law, and technology, and can use 30 ECTS credits on classes in a second foreign language or other linguistic modules and workshops. The whole programme is delivered as a practical course using active teaching methods, led by academic staff that includes experienced interpreters, tutors, and linguists. A philology degree structured around translation, business English, and second-language specialties, as this one is, typically prepares graduates for careers in translation, teaching, business communication, and roles requiring strong multilingual competence within international organizations.
