Bachelor in Language and literature studies (American studies)

Wrocław, Poland Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Language and Literature Studies (American Studies) is a bachelor's degree taught in English over three years (six semesters) at the Philological School of Higher Education in Wrocław, Poland. The programme is offered in four specialisations: a Translation programme, an English for Business and Tourism programme, a Teaching English as a Foreign Language track, and a general specialisation with free choice among all available courses and no specific professional profile. Full-time studies involve fifteen weeks of regular classes per semester, held Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., and students sign up online each September for their courses, choosing class times, specialization courses, and course formats such as online or face-to-face delivery. Students may begin in the Language Continued mode, starting from B1-level English. Core courses focus on practical English skills in listening and reading comprehension and in speaking and writing, developing proficiency up to C1 CEFR level, with particular attention given to American English, the history of the United States, and American culture and literature, viewed partly through the perspective of British legacy. Within the English as a Foreign Language module, students build practical language skills through a range of activating teaching methods supported by online resources, alongside broader study of American language and literature within an intercultural and interdisciplinary perspective. A degree of this kind typically combines applied language training with humanities coursework in literature and history, preparing graduates for careers in teaching, translation, business communication, and tourism where American English and cultural knowledge are valuable.
