Global Korean Studies at Sogang University focuses on Korea's language, history, society, and contemporary culture, examined from an international and comparative perspective. Housed within the Division of Global Korean Studies in Mapo-gu, South Korea, the program combines Korean-language instruction with courses on modern Korean history, politics, media, and social change, alongside how Korea engages with the rest of the world through trade, diplomacy, and cultural exports. Students examine primary and secondary materials on Korean society, analyze media and pop culture, and study the country's rapid economic and political transformation over recent decades. The bachelor's degree runs four years, with admission cycles in March and September, matching the standard South Korean academic calendar. Although the subject matter is Korea-focused, instruction is delivered in English, which allows international students to build a serious academic grounding in Korean studies while developing Korean-language ability progressively rather than needing prior fluency.
