Bachelor in Foundations in Data Science

Foundations in Data Science is a Bachelor's degree programme at Chemnitz University of Technology that trains students in the mathematical and computational skills required for professional data science work. The programme is distinguished by a high proportion of mathematics and by the close integration of mathematics and computer science as its two core disciplines. The curriculum runs over six semesters and begins in the winter semester. The first four semesters provide thorough grounding in mathematics through the lecture series Mathematics for Science and Engineering, supplemented by special Mathematical Training classes in the first year for in-depth work on problem solving and proofs. Data science topics are introduced progressively through courses such as Computational Machine Learning, Scientific Programming, and Statistical Modelling. Applied courses including Digital Systems, Microprocessor Technology, and Mathematical Modelling in Economics show how these techniques operate in practice. From the third year, students select advanced courses according to their interests, ideally coordinated with their intended Master's programme.
