The Doctoral Programme in Built Environment covers doctoral research in two broad fields. The first is architecture and urban planning and design, with research areas including management of built heritage, architectural design, and urban planning and design. The second is civil and infrastructure engineering, encompassing structural engineering, construction management and economics, infrastructure engineering, and transportation systems. Doctoral education in the programme provides deeper scientific knowledge and more extensive research skills than master's level study, with research training as a central element. High-quality research is treated as integral to both the education and the training. Graduates typically go on to research and teaching careers in universities and research institutions, or to expert and management roles in the private and public sectors.
