About Master in Data Science

The Master's programme in Data Science at the University of Münster addresses the professional gap at the intersection of statistical analysis, information technology, and business communication. Companies increasingly recognise the value of data in areas such as product development, marketing, and customer relationship management, yet handling large datasets also requires the ability to analyse problems from ethical, legal, and business perspectives and communicate findings effectively. The programme is designed to provide those combined competencies. Offered part-time over 4 semesters and concluding with a Master of Science degree, the curriculum covers business informatics, mathematics and statistics, business administration and marketing, and media, law, and communication science. It amounts to 90 credit points and includes 380 hours of face-to-face teaching delivered in block format across four-and-a-half-day sessions. A practical project is completed during the study period, alongside nine taught modules and a master's thesis of up to 50 pages with a working period of seven months. The programme is delivered in English and is carried out in cooperation with the High-tech Business & Entrepreneurship Group of the University of Twente in the Netherlands. Intake is in the winter semester. The programme is offered at the University of Münster in Münster, Germany.
