University of Koblenz

Master in Web and Data Science (MSc)

Koblenz, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The MSc in Web and Data Science at the University of Koblenz trains students in the analysis of data and the design and development of web and data-intensive systems. The programme is grounded in the understanding that web and data ecosystems are shaped by technology, economics, legal constraints, and social interactions involving individuals, companies, governments, and interest groups. Study areas include automated data analysis, web data analysis covering content, links, and usage, social network analysis, online consumer behaviour, digital rights, and political participation on the web. Running over four semesters and starting in the winter semester, the curriculum is structured into five module groups: Web Science, Data Science, mandatory elective courses in computer science or interdisciplinary subjects, a Master's thesis, and seminars with research lab components. Students also complete social skills and leadership training. The programme's elective component allows students to draw on subjects across mathematical modelling, information management, business informatics, and related research fields, giving considerable flexibility in shaping the degree. Graduates are prepared to work on complex problems in research, ICT industry, or the public sector, and to independently formulate and execute tasks involving data analysis, data narrative, interactive web development, and web or data strategy. The programme also serves as preparation for doctoral studies. The University of Koblenz offers this programme at its campus in Koblenz, Germany.
