The compulsory first-year module ‘Deaf People in Society’ introduces you to the social and cultural dimensions of deafness, examining different models and their influence on individuals and communities. Alongside this, you develop BSL fluency through a sequence of language courses from BSL 100 to BSL 200, and explore Deaf history, culture and the ethics of interpreting.

You graduate ready to register as a Trainee BSL/English Interpreter.

The degree suits applicants who already have a passion for visual language, who have achieved at least 104 UCAS points (or equivalent qualifications), and who wish to work in Deaf education, interpreting, or community roles. Study takes place in dedicated BSL teaching rooms and a language lab, with placements in Deaf communities and community-engagement events.
