Master in Biotechnology

Biotechnology, with a specialization in Biofuels, is a master's degree program taught in English at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Poland, running for 3 semesters with yearly tuition of 3000.0 EUR. Graduates of the Biofuels specialization become qualified specialists in the technology behind producing components for biofuels. Their skills connect to producing electric power and heat from biofuels, as well as processing biofuels themselves, and they build an understanding of the theoretical principles behind both the production and combustion of biofuels. Main courses include experimental methodology; the ecological, social, and economic aspects of biotechnology; technologies for power and heat production; conventional and renewable fuels; thermal technology; the basics of microbiological and biochemical processes; automatic control systems; plant molecular biology and physiology; fuel processing technologies; combustion processes and technologies; energy crops; biofuels production technologies; control of biotechnical systems; computer methods in engineering; the use of biofuels in electric energy production; molecular biology in microbial biocenoses monitoring; and computer-aided optimization. Biotechnology as a field applies biological processes, organisms, and systems to industrial and environmental problems, and the biofuels specialization focuses that application on renewable energy production. Graduates are prepared for roles in energy companies, biofuel production facilities, environmental technology firms, and research institutions working on renewable energy.
