Master in Biotechnology

Industrial Biotechnology is a master's degree program taught entirely in English at Lodz University of Technology in Łódź, Poland, carried out by the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences, running for 1.5 years with yearly tuition of 16000.0 PLN. The program integrates biological and technical sciences to make use of enzymes, organisms, and cells in producing products, and it is aimed at people interested in using biological systems, living organisms, and enzymes to create or modify specific products or processes. While studying the molecular mechanisms that regulate processes within living organisms and their interaction with the environment, students learn to design ecological bio-products, generate bioenergy, and develop sustainable processes for the food, feed, chemical, pharmaceutical, energy, and environmental industries. The interdisciplinary curriculum is described as well received by employers in the life-science sector, helping students define their interests and make informed choices about their professional development after graduation. Core subjects include biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, molecular biology, genetic engineering, bioinformatics, industrial engineering, biochemical engineering, biotechnological equipment, industrial fermentation technology, management of innovations in biotechnology, and basics of marketing. Students can choose between two specializations: Fermentation Technology and Technical Microbiology, or Molecular Biotechnology and Technical Biochemistry. Industrial biotechnology as a discipline applies biological processes at industrial scale, linking laboratory science with process and production engineering. The program is designed to train graduates for roles in production, process development, and quality control within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and food companies, as well as for further specialization through doctoral study or continued professional training in a related biological or engineering field.
