About Bachelor Midwifery Wmidw2

Midwifery graduates from Charles Darwin University are eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, enabling them to practice across all Australian States or Territories. The profession demands physical and psychological resilience, yet offers profound rewards. The Bachelor of Midwifery course includes a Continuity of Midwifery Care Experience (COMCE), a core element that requires students to follow 10-15 women throughout their childbearing journey, visiting them four times antenatally, being on call for birth, and seeing them twice postnatally. This experience, along with professional experience placements, prepares graduates to support women's choices and provide evidence-based care, with a focus on rural, remote, and First Nations Australians.

Graduates secure roles in midwifery group practices, homebirth settings, and public or private hospitals. The course includes 1120 hours of professional experience placement, with simulations and clinical teaching blocks in Darwin, Alice Springs, Sydney, Tamworth, or Brisbane. Students must meet specific admission requirements, including immunisation records, criminal record checks, and a Senior First Aid qualification.

For the first 6 months of the three-year full time degree you must attend simulations and practical placements in person.

CDU conducts placements in various regions across the country, but students may need to travel for these placements if local options are unavailable, and are responsible for covering travel and associated costs.
