Access Studies

Free of charge, this Access Studies certificate provides the qualification needed to apply for higher-education programmes through the CAO. It targets learners with little or no formal qualifications, such as those holding only a Junior or Leaving Certificate, and prepares them for successful progression to undergraduate study. Successful completion grants the Access Studies qualification, enabling direct entry to a wide range of undergraduate courses, subject to quota preferences.

The course runs for 13 weeks on a part-time, on-campus basis in Letterkenny. Tuition is delivered over nine hours each week, typically spread across two days, and the programme comprises four mandatory modules totalling 30 credits. Students are expected to devote 2-3 hours of self-study per week for each five-credit module.

One core module, Application of Numbers (10 credits), reinforces computational skills and introduces spreadsheet software to solve practical problems, while the other modules cover college skills, learning strategies, and basic ICT.
