The industry-standard for wind resource assessment, siting and energy yield calculation for wind turbines and wind farms The WAsP software suite is used for sites located in all kinds of terrain all over the world. After the WAsP Self-study Course you will be able to: Calculate the energy yield for single wind turbines and wind farms Calculate the efficiency of a wind farm Map wind resources and turbulence Assess complex terrain sites Assess offshore wind farms Calculate wind conditions for IEC site assessment for individual wind turbines in a wind farm Study when you have the time You have full access to the study material for 8 weeks and during this time, it is entirely up to you when you study and how much time you wish to spend on each module. The following general topics will be covered during the course: WAsP characteristics and functionality Model operational envelopes and limitations Requirements for climatological and topographical input Best practice and sensitivity analyses Pitfalls, biases, and uncertainties Who is the course relevant for? The course is for students, engineers, scientists and others – primarily working within the field of wind energy – who require a working knowledge of the WAsP software for wind resource assessment. When and where? The online self-study course is on demand, ready when you have the time to learn more about WAsP. The self-study course is developed in the E-learning system DTU Learn (Brightspace) and you will have access to the system for 8 weeks. The course will have to be completed within these 8 weeks, if you wish to receive the certificate of participation. What is in it for your company? By having an employee who has participated in this course the company has access to a person who can manage the WAsP software and knows enough theory to avoid the pitfalls. There are multiple pitfalls which you will be taught but to name a few it could be to choose the correct height for your data, chose entire year for the dataset to avoid seasonal bias and to make sure that the roughness and elevation maps are the correct sizes. Practical information Language: English 9 modules to study, 1-3 hours/module, plus a case study of about 8 hours; in total about 32-35 hours. You will receive a free WAsP license, which will be valid throughout the eight weeks, giving you access to the complete WAsP suite software. There are specific tasks and assignments, which need to be completed in order to receive the Certificate of Participation at the end of the course, but you can go over the material as many times as you wish. Most importantly, you are asked to complete a case study and hand it in. It will be evaluated by a member of the WAsP Team at DTU Wind Energy and brief written feedback will be given.
