Master in Vietnam Improved Livelihoods Project

Saskatchewan Polytechnic has established a significant international footprint through its expertise in technical assistance and capacity building, as demonstrated by the Tra Vinh Improved Livelihoods Project. This initiative, conducted in partnership with the Canadian International Development Agency, focused on alleviating rural poverty in Vietnam through strategic agricultural and economic development.

The project was designed to create sustainable pathways for income generation, specifically targeting 20 communes across seven districts in the Tra Vinh province. By fostering collaboration between provincial government departments and local stakeholders, the initiative sought to transform rural economic landscapes through the following strategic pillars:

• Agricultural Intensification: Implementing crop diversification and modern farming technologies to boost productivity and ensure local food security.
• Extension Service Innovation: Establishing proactive information exchange systems that bridge the gap between agricultural researchers and rural farmers.
• Capacity Development: Strengthening local institutions through targeted human resource retraining and the development of new training frameworks.
• Infrastructure Support: Providing small-scale infrastructure development to create an enabling environment for rural enterprises and producer organizations.
