Bachelor in Umwelt- und Geoinformationsmanagement

In the module Photogrammetrische Auswertung, students explore methods of visualizing historical cityscapes using augmented reality and virtual reality applications. The Karlsruhe Zeitmaschine app, for example, allows users to see how different parts of the city looked in the past, thanks to 3D models built to a 1:1 scale. Students also work on real-world projects, such as the environmental monitoring of the Kingwal-Sumpf in Westkenia, where they evaluate changes in the landscape using multispectral satellite imagery.

Students engage in a variety of projects, including the creation of an interactive web map of recent earthquakes and the three-dimensional visualization of the city's energy plan. They also work on GIS-supported methods to assess the impact of artificial lighting on insect populations in protected areas. The program is recognized by ESRI as an ESRI Development Center, one of few in Germany, allowing students to work with industry-leading geoinformation technology.
