The Business of German Engineering

The Business of German Engineering is a two-week summer school held each July at Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences, open to students currently enrolled at a university anywhere in the world. It introduces participants to how Germany's small- and medium-sized enterprises — known collectively as "Der Mittelstand" — contribute to value chains both locally and internationally across technology-intensive industries. The programme is structured around three components: engineering and science lectures delivered by the university's faculty, daily visits to companies in the North Rhine-Westphalia region, and a cultural strand that covers intellectual and cultural aspects of the German engineering environment alongside excursions and social events. The summer school is conducted entirely in English with an average group size of around fifteen participants. The programme is held at Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences in Hamm, Germany.
