About Sustainable Food Systems

The application deadline is 14th August 2026, and tuition is Total Fees Non-EU: €10,800 (stated duration: 2 year(s)) — no per-annum wording, treated as a whole-programme total, not annualised.

Graduates of this programme move into roles such as sustainability manager, consultant or analyst within the food and drink sector, and many continue onto the Postgraduate Diploma or MSc in Sustainable Food Systems. Employers include food manufacturers, retailers, regulatory bodies and specialist sustainability consultancies, and the qualification is recognised for progression to higher-level postgraduate study.

The course tackles how modern food systems interact with ecological limits, policy frameworks and consumer behaviour. It examines the challenges of delivering healthy, affordable food while reducing environmental impacts, and it teaches tools such as life-cycle assessment, systems-thinking and circular-economy approaches. Students explore sustainability in the context of development and manufacturing, analyse resource efficiency in production, and assess labeling and consumer perception across the supply chain.

Delivered online and part-time, the Level 9 Certificate requires 30 credits of mandatory modules over one academic year. Lectures and independent study are combined with continuous assessment, and no on-campus attendance is needed. The programme expects around seven hours of weekly study, with two hours of evening lectures and five hours of independent work.
