The programme runs over four years, combining a three-year BEng curriculum with an optional fourth year that includes a paid industrial placement. Core mechanical engineering modules are taught in years one to three, whilst specialised sustainable-energy subjects such as fuel cells, photovoltaics, tidal and wind energy are introduced later, leading to advanced design and testing projects in the final year.

Graduates are prepared for positions in energy-focused engineering firms, consultancy, or further research, and are eligible for Chartered Engineer registration through IMechE accreditation. The course is aimed at students who have achieved A-levels (including mathematics and physics) or equivalent qualifications and wish to apply their engineering knowledge to the development of renewable-energy technologies.
