Master in Sustainable Chemistry

This four-semester Master's programme teaches students to design chemical processes, products, and methods that meet sustainability requirements, considering environmental and social factors such as resource consumption, energy efficiency, climate protection, and human health. The curriculum covers fundamentals of sustainability and sustainable chemistry, advanced topics in inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, heavy metal-free synthesis and catalysis, photochemistry, electrochemistry, and circular economy approaches for chemical processes. The first year consists of taught modules including compulsory and elective subjects; elective options cover areas such as Energy Materials, Sustainable Water Treatment, Sustainable Materials Chemistry, and soft and professional skills. The second year is devoted entirely to research, with students embedded in chemistry working groups and engaged in current projects in sustainable synthesis and materials development. The programme concludes with a Master's thesis. It is connected to the DigiChem network, with partner universities in Padua, Ljubljana, and Zagreb. The programme starts in the winter semester and is offered at Justus Liebig University Giessen in Gießen, Germany.
