The Biomechanics and Bio-Materials (BB) specialty focuses on materials used in medicine, surgery, and prosthetics, with the first two semesters dedicated to acquiring a general background opening the way to 'bio-mechanics' and 'bio-materials'. This speciality includes applied research. Examples include tissue repair techniques and new orthopaedic prosthetics. Notably, students spend six months on placements and six months on project work in an industrial milieu. Past placements have included design and mechanical failure assessments for hip prosthetics, drafting regulatory texts for a new silicone-impregnated bandage, and human skin modelling and toxicity tests for new medicinal molecules. 50% of the job openings stem from project work, often in major groups such as Medtronic, Sarin, St. Jude Medical, Stryker, Decathlon and institutions like CNRS, INSERM, and Universities, spanning roles in R&D, clinical trials, QA, and marketing.
