About Master in Religion in Europa (M.A.)

Offering a unique focus on the role of religions in shaping Europe, the 'Religion in Europa' programme at Saarland University explores the impact of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, as well as lesser-known faiths such as European Buddhism and modern esotericism. This MA is the only one of its kind in Germany. Students engage with these topics through a blend of theological, philosophical, and social scientific methods, gaining a comprehensive understanding of religious dynamics and their interplay with European societies and cultures.

Professors Anne Conrad and Michael Hüttenhoff lead this interdisciplinary programme, which includes a mix of compulsory and elective modules. Students can choose from a range of themes, including religious pluralism, interreligious dialogue, and the cultural and ethical dimensions of religion. The programme is available as a main, extended main, or minor subject, with a flexible curriculum that allows for specialization in areas such as Christianity, Judaism, and Islam in Europe, or religion and ethics.
