PhD Postgraduate Research in Humanities

Expert supervision from leading academics with strong research backgrounds and a record of successful PhD supervisions is a hallmark of this programme. It is aimed at candidates who already hold a relevant master’s degree in a humanities discipline and wish to develop an independent research profile. Each week students design and carry out original investigations, meet regularly with their supervisor, attend research seminars, and take part in skill-development events run by the Doctoral College. Students also develop methodological competence, engaging with qualitative, quantitative and interdisciplinary approaches, and refine academic writing through regular feedback on thesis drafts.

The programme provides access to dedicated postgraduate research rooms, extensive databases and key journals, creating an active research culture in which findings are regularly presented in seminars and published. Doctoral research is supported by training in academic writing, presentation, and career development, ensuring transferable skills such as critical thinking and project management.
